Translational Research at the Brain Tumor Center

Translational Research

Translational research aims to convert basic science discoveries into practical medical applications.

Here at UCSF, this classic bench-to-bedside approach is a priority, and we seek to effectively move promising discoveries from the lab into clinical trials. Likewise, the needs we identify from treating patients informs the direction of our lab research. One area of active translational research involves refining precision medicine strategies for patients. We oversee pharmacogenomics studies to determine whether individual molecular profiles (like specific mutations in a patient’s tumor) or new imaging biomarkers can better inform treatment decisions for patients.
