Psycho-Oncology

Psycho-oncology utilizes both behavioral and medication-based approaches to help patients deal with the emotional challenges of having a brain tumor.

The psycho-oncology team, which includes psychologists and psychiatrists, provides emotional and supportive care to our patients and their families. They work closely with Brain Tumor Center providers to identify and address sources of psychosocial distress, including the following challenges:

  • Adjusting to illness
  • Stresses of medical treatment
  • Emotional needs
  • Relationships and caregiving
  • Coping with pain, insomnia, and other symptoms

This service is open to all patients being treated at the UCSF Brain Tumor Center. You can talk to your neuro-oncologist about getting a referral, or contact the Psycho-Oncology department directly at (415) 353-7019
