Support The Caregiver Program

The UCSF Neuro-Oncology Gordon Murray Caregiver Program is named in honor of Gordon Murray who was treated at UCSF for brain cancer and has since passed away. Grateful for the state-of-art care Mr. Murray received at UCSF, his wife Randi Murray led a fundraising campaign to build a program that helps families get the resources they need throughout the difficult experience of diagnosis, treatment, and bereavement.

A Message from the Murray Family

Dear Friends,

Brain cancer diagnosis is overwhelming for patients and their families, and is uniquely different from other cancers. Not only is the prognosis typically extremely serious, but the presence of cancer in the brain fundamentally affects the essence of the patient's being.

In our case, while we adjusted to the new reality of Gordon's diagnosis and the consequences of treatment – surgery, radiation and chemotherapy – we felt extremely fortunate to have access to the extraordinary medical team at UCSF led by Dr. Mitch Berger. It was an enormous source of solace to know that we had the resources of the premier center for brain cancer treatment in the world. In addition, everyone with whom we came in contact – the schedulers, radiation technicians, nurses, surgeons, oncologists and radiologists – demonstrated the highest level of caring and professionalism. The Neuro-Oncology team at UCSF is committed to finding a cure for brain cancer, and to continually improving patient care, but we need your help.

Gordon’s life was all about making a difference, whether it was in his professional or personal endeavors. He believed that with commitment and passion, any one person could improve the lives of others. His standard of excellence was an inspiration to all who knew him – his family, his friends, his colleagues and his medical team. Please join us by making a gift to the Neuro-Oncology Gordon Murray Caregiver Program. Your contribution will continue his legacy and make a tremendous difference to brain cancer patients and their families.

We hope that others who walk this path will have an easier journey because of the Neuro-Oncology Gordon Murray Caregiver Program, and that Gordon’s life, as well as his death, will have made a difference.

– Randi, Sam and Ben Murray
